June Meeting.
As usual, the June meeting was the club’s Annual General Meeting. Twenty-two members attended, and we had six entries for the Display Competition.
The minutes for the 2009 AGM were approved in short order. This was followed by the Chairman’s report. Mick reported that membership had risen from 39 to 41 this year, with an average monthly attendance of 24-25 (approx 60%). The membership was thanked for strongly supporting the social events that were included in the programme (Royal Mint trip, Skittles and Christmas Meal). The possibility of hosting the 2014 BANS conference was raised again, and this will be considered by the committee and put to the membership at the next AGM.
Next Peter Hall gave the Treasurer’s report. This concluded that the club funds grew this year with a small surplus of £63. The increased membership, as well as self-funding social events and minimal speaker costs, accounted for this. As such, the membership endorsed the continued freeze on the membership fee at £14 with an optional £2 for tea/coffee/biscuits.
The Secretary’s report, given by James, summarised the cost of producing the monthly newsletter at between £7 and £8 per member per year (ever increasing due to rising postage and sundries costs). Therefore, to minimize club expenditure, the membership was requested to offer an email address to receive the newsletter if possible. Please contact James on the number above if you are currently receiving a posted newsletter, but would be able to have an emailed version.
The Programme Secretary ran through an exciting set of talks for 2010/11 including six external speakers, one member speaker and the usual auction, bourse and short talks evening. The membership then congratulated and thanks Gavin Scott for his committee service as he now steps down after 5 years. The membership was requested to forward ideas for future speakers, useful contacts to the committee and ideas for social visits. If you have any ideas, please contact one of the committee.
The Library and Publicity Secretary had no specific items to report on from last year, however indicated that over the next 12 months, an audit of the club library would take place, as well as an initiative to publicise the club and attract new members.
Following this, the re-election of the standing committee (excepting Gavin) was proposed by Neil and seconded by Michael. Disappointingly no further nominations were received to replace Gavin (the retiring Programme Secretary). This situation is to be addressed by the chairman.
The new committee then elected Gavin as President, Frank as Vice President and Neil as the Honourable Auditor.
Finally, the committee expressed their thanks to two club member for their work towards the running of the club, these being Neil as Auditor and John for maintaining the website.
This closed the formal AGM, and we moved onto the Display competition. We had six entrants this year (a huge rise from the three for 2009!). The competition this year was won by Maurice. Barry won the entrants raffle.
